VTXS was founded to show how people enjoying responsible, prepared off-roading can change the public's opinion about 4x4 recreation in New England.  We met many people during our expedition who understand this and welcomed us with open arms.  We met Bill about half way through our journey and he sent us the following email (reprinted with permission):

Peter - It was good talking with you this morning. I'm the guy in the red [Jeep] Liberty.

My grandfather bought about 900 acres here in 1941 as a summer "retreat" and I spent all my childhood summers here with him. This land was my "backyard" and it's where I learned about the woods, its inhabitants and how to live in an ecologically supportive manner. This is also where I learned my trade as a Master Carpenter which launched me into a wonderful career in the building industry. So when I was able to realize my life's dream of coming back here to retire on this land, it was coming "full circle".

The point of all this is that this very special piece of Vermont paradise means a great deal to me.

The VAST snowmobile trail comes through and uses some of the class 4 roads, and we get our share of ATVs and teenage "mudders", so to have a group of responsible people come through and appreciate it as your group does warms my heart.

Please make a point of coming back and exploring this piece of back country in the daylight. The wealth of class 4 roads and trails along with the old cellar holes and abandoned soapstone quarries makes this area a memorable experience. My wife and I love to see people enjoying it as we do.

Best of luck on the rest of you expedition. Bill
